What is hymenoplasty (Hymen Repair Surgery)?

The surgical repair of a torn hymen is called a hymenoplasty, commonly referred to as a hymenorrhaphy or a hymen repair surgery. The procedure, commonly referred to as revirginization, is a cosmetic fix for a punctured or damaged hymen. India has seen a 20–30% increase in hymenoplasty instances in recent years.

How to prepare for hymenoplasty?

The patient coordinator and your gynaecologist will go through how to be ready for the hymen repair procedure. Before performing your hymenoplasty, the physician will probably do a physical examination. The hymen repair surgeon may also require you to undertake the following things:

  • Birth control should be stopped at least 10 days before surgery.
  • Check for allergies and current prescriptions before the procedure since some drugs, such ibuprofen or blood thinners, must be stopped before to the procedure or they run the risk of causing excessive bleeding.
  • On the day of surgery, make sure you have your age proof with you because it is a need before the operation.
  • Eat a light meal on the day of the surgery. Avoid heavy foods that are high in fats and carbs.
  • Ensure you have someone to accompany you back home after your surgery since you may still have some after-effects of anesthesia.

Recovery after Hymenoplasty Surgery

Since hymenoplasty surgery is an outpatient treatment, the patient does not need to stay in the hospital for a long period of time. After at least two to three hours of observation, the patient is released.

  • Take the recommended medications to avoid discomfort or infection around the vagina, at the surgery site, or anywhere else.
  • Dry off and keep the genital region clean. After urinating, wash it off and wipe it dry.
  • For 6-8 weeks following surgery, or until the incision is totally healed, refrain from sexual activity.
  • Use ice packs or warm compresses to relieve any discomfort or edoema that may have developed after surgery.
  • Tampons and menstrual cups should not be used unless the doctor thinks it appropriate.
  • Consult your gynaecologist right away if you have any bleeding, burning, itching, or persistent swelling at the surgery site.

Hymenoplasty is it permitted in India?

Yes. In India, hymenoplasty and hymen repair procedures are acceptable. The practise is distinct from female genital mutilation, despite this being a common misconception. Hymenoplasty is regarded as a lawful surgical operation in India and is carried out in a number of gynaecology clinics.

How painful is hymenoplasty surgery?

Since hymenoplasty surgery is carried out under local anaesthesia, no discomfort is experienced. Many ladies also decide to take a sedative during the procedure in order to sleep. However, as the anaesthesia wears off, you can have some little discomfort for the first week after the procedure.

Is surgery to restore hymens safe?

Yes. Hymen repair surgery, also known as a hymenoplasty, is a fairly safe medical operation. In India alone, thousands of women have the operation every year. The popularity of surgical treatments is growing, which says a lot about how safe hymenoplasty is. There are no substantial risks or consequences associated with the operation.

Hymenoplasty: Does it bring back virginity?

The hymen is a material component. Virginity, on the other hand, is a societal construct. As a result, one cannot predict the other. However, an unbroken hymen has long been seen as a symbol of a woman's virginity in many countries, including India. Hymenoplasty surgery won't make you virgin again. However, it produces a new hymen that resembles a hymen that has never been ripped in terms of appearance and sensation.

Endovenous laser therapy ablation

Also known as endovenous laser treatment or EVLA, this is a minimally invasive ultrasound-guided procedure that involves the use of ultrasound images and laser fiber in order to kill the delicate lining of the veins. After a few days following the procedure, the body absorbs the dead tissues, closing off the abnormal veins with minimal or no discomfort. This is one of the most commonly preferred methods as it involves far fewer complications, and the recovery time, as well as the success rate of this method, is much faster and higher than that of any surgical process.
